Zoning Ordinance Update

Planning Department Staff is advocating for an update to the Zoning Code. The Zoning Code has not been fully updated since 1996. The new draft modernizes the zoning code, makes the code easier to understand, and creates fewer barriers for housing improvement.

The Planning Department is looking to udpate the City of Sheboygan's Zoning Code, which hasn't gone through a full rewrite since 1996. Below is your one stop shop to find all things zoning code related- timeline, anticpated next steps, and the oppurtunity for comments and questions.

Timeline of the Zoning Code Update

Zoning Code Scoping Meeting
September 23, 2024
Initial meeting with von Briesen and Roper and city staff to discuss scope of the zoning code rewrite. Staff attendees included Planning Director Diane McGinnis-Casey, City Attorney Chuck Adams, Mayor Ryan Sorenson, Zoning Administrator Ellise Rose and Assistant to the City Administrator Marie Foss.
October 2024
Planning and Development Director Diane McGinnis-Casey selected von Briesen and Roper for consultation to update the City's Zoning Code. Attorney Sam Schultz is the main consultant on this project. Link in Title.
Review Process Starts
November 2024
Mr. Schultz meets with the Zoning Administrator to best re-write the zoning code to meet modern day needs. The goal at the beginning of the process was to have the code voted on by the end of 2025.
