Welcome to the Calder Way Project Website!

The Borough of State College is delighted to present the Calder Way Project, a focal point within the esteemed Downtown Master Plan. The vision is to transform this corridor into a pedestrian-preferred enclave, reducing vehicular traffic and enhancing the overall urban experience.

Project Overview:

• Vital utility improvements, including sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water, gas, electric, and telecommunications systems.
• Replacing conventional curbed sidewalks with captivating artistic measures.
• Introducing streetscape enhancements from Hiester to Burrowes.
• Phase 2 – Utility Construction (S. Fraster to S. Atherton), January 2026 – July 2026
• Phase 2A- Utility Construction (Hetzel St. Intersection), March 2026 – July 2026
• Phase 3 – Design 2026 (McAllister to S. Garner), Utility Construction 2027

Future Phases - 2026 to 2027:

• Utility replacements in remaining segments.
• Streetscape elements integrated post-utility replacement from Hiester to Burrowes.

Grants and Feasibility Study:

• SEDA COG previously awarded a $60,000 grant (with a $90,000 Borough contribution) for the Calder Way Infrastructure Feasibility Study. This study provided comprehensive insights into the project's scope and costs, informed by the construction endeavors.
• Phase 2 and Phase 2A recevied $2.75 million H20 PA Grant for sewer, storm, and water improvements.
• Phase 3 secured $16 million Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant for design and construction.
• Pursuing state and federal grants for forthcoming project segments.
