What is Land Use? Land Use is how different areas in the city are planned, developed, and used. Land Use determines what types of buildings and activities are allowed in certain parts of the City, including commercial, residential, mixed-use, cultural areas, and public spaces.

What is Multimodal Mobility? Multimodal mobility is the approach to using different modes of transportation for travel, often in a seamless and interconnected way. In contrast to relying on just one mode for travel, such as a personal vehicle, multimodal mobility combines various options like walking, biking, buses, trains, and more in a manner that improves flexibility, efficiency, and sustainability in the transportation system.

The Project will explore opportunities to increase transit-oriented development; a development approach that focuses on the creation of walkable, mixed-use communities around high-quality public transit; and improve access and mobility between the Downtown Transit Center (DTC), Cabral Station, and San Joaquin Street Station.

Key Project efforts include:

  • Analyzing Downtown Stockton’s existing mobility and land use conditions,
  • Identifying contraints and areas of opportunity,
  • Evaluating safety and security challenges, and
  • Proposing infrastructure and programmatic recommendations for building a cohesive and unified vision between the multimodal transportation network and the land use in Downtown Stockton.
