January
Get Outside!
Suisun City Environment and Climate Committee Sustainability Monthly Topics
Happy New Year Suisun! The hills are emerald-green, and the air is fresh and clean. Winter is a great time to get outside and enjoy our unique open spaces with friends and family.
Why go outside in January?
· We spend a lot of time indoors in winter, where poor air quality can affect our health. Children, the elderly, and people with asthma and heart disease are particularly vulnerable. · You can work to improve your indoor environment, but quick relief from indoor doldrums can be found by stepping outside for some fresh air.
· The New Year is also a great time to work off that pie from December’s indulgence!
Where to get outside at an open space near you:
· Walk the waterfront promenade in Old Town Suisun. Get fresh air and exercise while enjoying the beautiful waterfront. Parking is ample, dogs are encouraged (on a leash, please), and the view of Mount Diablo is stunning. Be on the lookout for birds and otters!
· Take your favorite kid to a neighborhood park in Suisun City.
· Visit Rush Ranch on your own or join an event offered by Solano Land Trust. Get the Rush event at Rush Ranch is every third Saturday. Check their calendar for other events such as their popular Birds of Prey hikes.
· Xplore Solano with the new community mobile app! The Solano Transportation Authority and Xplore Solano provide intel on trails, parks, and open spaces.
· Other places to walk in the region include Rockville Hills Regional Park in Fairfield, Lynch Canyon Open Space Park between Fairfield and Vallejo, Lagoon Valley Park in Vacaville, Wetlands Edge Park in American Canyon, and the George Miller Trail in the Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline.
