Laleham Village 20mph zone and 30mph speed limit proposals
Statutory Notice: Traffic Regulation Order (TRO)
This is the formal legal stage of the process and involves publishing a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) Notice, during which objections or representations may be made.
Proposal
We are proposing to introduce a 20mph zone on parts of Ashford Road, Shepperton Road, Staines Road, and The Broadway on the approach to, and through Laleham Village. It is also proposed to extend the 30mph limit section of Ashford Road by 131m to the north. This will provide a section of 30mph speed limit between the 40mph section of Ashford Road and the start of the 20mph zone.
This proposal has arisen from local representation to the divisional member and the former Spelthorne Joint Committee. The reduction in speed of traffic through the area would be beneficial in terms of promoting safer roads and is supported by the local community.
The reduced speed limit will be supported by the traffic calming which has recently been installed on Ashford Road, Shepperton Road, and Staines Road. We are also proposing to install traffic calming on The Broadway.
The original proposals for 20mph zone was supported by traffic calming which included a road table on Ashford Road north of the Thames Water intake channel. Following statutory consultation for the proposed 20mph zone the decision was taken to omit this road table.
As a result of this decision the full extent of the previously proposed 20mph zone would not comply with Surrey County Council’s Setting Local Speed Limits policy. We are therefore now proposing to reduce the extent of the 20mph zone. We are also proposing to provide a section of 30mph speed limit between the 20mph zone and the 40mph section of Ashford Road.
