Proposed Provision of a Pedex Crossing on A245 Portsmouth Road, Cobham

Statutory Notice: Traffic Regulation Order (TRO)

This is the formal legal stage of the process and involves publishing a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) Notice, during which objections or representations may be made.

Proposal

Portsmouth Road, Cobham is a significant east-west route. There are pedestrians crossing this road throughout the day for access to the bus stops as well as onward journeys, with the town centre in close proximity. There is a large residential area to the north, accessed via Gavell Road and there are no dedicated pedestrian crossing facilities on this section of Portsmouth Road. To address this, it is proposed to install a signalised crossing across Portsmouth Road. Scheme includes a new footway on the desire line between Gavell Road and the new crossing and bus accessibility improvements.
The proposed Signalised Crossing of Portsmouth Road will improve accessibility for pedestrians crossing the road to access the following facilities;
•Bus stops
•Village centre
•Residential areas north and south of Portsmouth Road

Provision of the facility would provide improved road safety for pedestrians crossing the road at this location.
Provision of crossing facilities may encourage a modal shift from car to public transport or pedestrian travel.
