Plaistow Street, Lingfield Puffin Crossing Proposal
Statutory Notice: Traffic Regulation Order (TRO)
This is the formal legal stage of the process and involves publishing a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) Notice, during which objections or representations may be made.
Proposal
It is proposed to create a signalised Puffin pedestrian crossing on the B2028 Plaistow Street, Lingfield Church between the junction of Vicarage Road and the entrance to Tesco Express.
The proposed crossing will consist of 2 push button operated signal heads and associate road markings consistent with this type of pedestrian crossing. Red light phasing will only occur when there is pedestrian demand.
This is in response to concerns brought to the County Councillor by residents about the safety of pedestrians wishing to cross Plaistow Street to access the local businesses and make use of the bus stops for the area.
The B2028 Plaistow Street is subject to large volumes of vehicular traffic through a significant portion of a 24-hour period, with no formal pedestrian crossing point. With the Tesco express on Plaistow Street, there have been larger volumes of pedestrians wishing to cross the B2028 Plaistow Street at this location.
This scheme has been funded through the Countywide Prioritised ITS Programme. The budget for this programme was set by Cabinet with the sole purpose of capital improvements of this nature.
This survey opens on 9 July 2026 and closes 30 July 2026
