Member of Youth Parliament Elections

It's youth election season, and time for you to choose your new Member of Youth Parliament. Find out all you need to know below, and then cast your vote!

What is a Member of Youth Parliament?

A Member of Youth Parliament, or MYP, represents young people at a local, regional, and national level. They are elected by young people aged 11–18 in their local area. Surrey has 7 MYP seats.

The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) is formed by more than 300 MYPs. They debate issues, write a manifesto, and vote on their priorities in the annual sitting in the House of Commons. They then campaign for the changes young people want to see, write reports, and present their recommendations to the government.

How are Members of Youth Parliament elected?

Every two years, young people run for election to become MYPs. They write manifestos, film speeches, and campaign to win votes. Young people like you then vote for the candidate they think would best represent them, and those with the most votes are elected.

Why should I vote?
There are so many reasons to vote – here are just a few:

• your voice matters, and should be heard

• it’s an effective way of letting leaders know what matters to you

• MYPs with strong support can make big changes

• it’s good practice for voting as an adult and being an active citizen

Who can vote?
Young people aged 11-18, who live, work, or study in Surrey.
