Changes to the proposals compared to engagement stage 2
Following the second stage of engagement, the plans were reviewed, changed where applicable and developed in more detail, taking into account the feedback we received for local stakeholders as well as further survey work. This has included removing some proposals where they received particularly low support or significant opposition overall.
The list below shows the key changes to the proposals compared to the previous public engagement stage.
Area 1 – Pooley Green shopping parade
- Option 1 was has been selected which removes the service road outside the shops in full. This takes into account the decision made by Runnymede Borough Council to re-introduce free parking for the first 30 minutes in the Pooley Green Recreation Ground car park.
- The type of cycle parking has been changed – no longer includes a shelter.
- The proposed parallel crossing across Langton Way has been removed from scope.
- The plans include some extensions to double yellow lines in this area.
Area 2 – Thorpe Road and Thorpe Lea Road
- This area has been surveyed and designed in significantly more detail.
- The option to route the cycleway along Tempest Road and Medlake Road has been selected. This option is proposed due to the narrow footways and carriageway along Thorpe Lea Road in this area which would mean that continuation of a shared use footway/cycleway would have a very substandard width.
- The more detailed design work has identified the preference to move two bus stops to nearby locations that benefit from more width.
- A new raised table is proposed on Thorpe Road at the junction with Goring Road.
- The proposals include widening the existing pedestrian refuge crossing on Thorpe Road at the roundabout with the A308.
- It is proposed to replace existing lengths of single yellow lines with double yellow lines.
Area 3 – Wendover Road, Roundway, Rowan Avenue and surrounding roads
- The plans for Rowan Avenue and Roundway are more detailed and take into account the findings from trial holes to assess the feasibility of providing parking bays on the verges.
- All previous proposals to provide buildouts with tree planting along Mullens Road, Century Road and Wendover Road have been descoped due to overall low stakeholder support.
Area 4 – Pooley Green Road, Pond Road and surrounding roads Pooley
- The proposals include more details at three bus stops on Pooley Green Road. A new bus cage is proposed and changes are proposed at two others. It is proposed to reposition two bus stop flags.
Area 5 – Huntingfield Way and surrounding roads
- Please note this area was referred to as Area 7 during the previous stage of engagement.
- The proposals permit contra-flow cycling on Crossways, connecting with the proposed cycleway along Thorpe Lea Road (Area 2). At the Crossways/Barons Way junction more details have been shown including improved crossing points for pedestrians.
- The previous proposal for planting on the small roundabout on Stephen Close has been descoped due to overall low stakeholder support.
- Timber bollards are proposed as part of the Hungtingfield Way and Langton Way junction re-design to prevent parking on grass verges.
Area 6 – Wapshott Road and surrounding roads
- Please note this area was referred to as Area 8 during the previous stage of engagement.
- The updated proposals along the public footpath from Wapshott Road/Goring Road reflect further assessment of the current conditions here.
- The proposed benches in the grass areas on St Paul’s Road have been descoped due to overall low stakeholder support.
- The scheme scope includes improvements to the public footpath from Cornwall Way.
- The proposals include double yellow lines to restrict parking on crossing points at the junction of St Paul's Road and Wapshott Road.
Residential roads off Vicarage Road
- This area was referred to as Area 5 in the previous stage of engagement but has been descoped from the scheme.
- Improvements to side road junctions along Vicarage Road will be considered as part of the cycle corridor scheme prioritised in the Runnymede Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan.
Keswick Road, Wavendene Avenue and surrounding roads
- This area was referred to as Area 6 in the previous stage of engagement but has been descoped from the scheme.
- Since the previous engagement was undertaken improvements have been made to the footpath between Ayebridges Avenue and Wavendene Avenue.
- Improvements to side road junctions along Thorpe Lea Road will be considered as part of the cycle corridor scheme prioritised in the Runnymede Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan. All other proposals have been descoped due to overall low stakeholder support.
