Wendover Road, Roundway and surrounding roads

Roads within this area include: Wendover Road, Wendover Place, Century Road, New Road, Mullens Road, Mons Walk, Jutland Place, St Nazaire Close, Alexander Road, Rhodes Close, Pooley Green Close, Rowan Avenue, Davis Road, Field View, Rochester Road, Hythe Park Road, Roundway and Glebe Road.

Design proposals in this area include (please see the PDF file linked below for a plan of all the proposals):

• Improvements at junctions including providing dropped kerbs and tactile paving where currently absent. This makes it safer and easier for users to cross the road, especially those with reduced mobility, visual impairments, or with a pushchair. Narrowing crossing distances by building out footways are also proposed at some junctions as well as installing double yellow lines to restrict parking on junctions.
• Tree planting is proposed across the area to provide more natural greenery. This includes along Wendover Road, Century Road and Mullens Road, where tree planting is proposed in build outs on the carriageway to provide the benefits provided by trees generally, as well as acting as traffic calming features. • Along Roundway, to prevent footway parking, the proposals include the installation of double yellow lines on the outside of the bend in the road. However, it is proposed to construct new inset parking bays on verges with spaces for 4 vehicles, and to mark out bays to encourage more efficient use of spaces to park on the road.
• The construction of new inset parking bays is also being considered along Rowan Avenue on existing verges. This would formalise existing parking which is currently causing damage to the verges. Areas of verge would be retained, on which trees may be planted, to break up the parking bays. This proposal is subject to further investigation of possible utilities underneath the verge which may compromise the feasibility of the proposal. 
• Proposals to improve accessibility to Hythe Park from Wendover Road and Roundway are being considered, working with Runnymede Borough Council.
