Lower Sunbury Local Street Improvements: Have your say

Lower Sunbury Local Street Improvements: Have your say

We are developing proposals for Lower Sunbury to make the streets safer, healthier and more attractive with improved facilities for walking, wheeling and cycling.

We have now secured funding and will be publishing a delivery plan in due course.

About the project

Email

Local Street Improvements are schemes intended to make streets within residential communities more appealing for people to spend time in and to make short journeys by walking, wheeling and bicycle.

As part of Surrey's Local Street Improvements programme, a scheme in Lower Sunbury is being developed with design funding from the Department for Transport.

We engaged with the community in Autumn 2024 on a set of draft proposals for the area which we have subsequently updated with several changes using feedback that was received. We recently concluded a third round of 'further engagement' with the community in Summer 2025 where local people shared their views to help shape the final plans for Lower Sunbury.

Timeline

Early engagement

27 Sep 2023 - 10 Nov 2023
The views of local stakeholders were invited to help shape the plans. Events were held at the Sunbury Adult Learning Centre on 19 October and 28 October 2023.

Feasibility designs developed

Nov 2023 - Jan 2024
Feasibility design plans have been developed using ideas gathered from the early engagement and informed by traffic surveys undertaken by the Project Team.

Engagement stage 2

9 Sept 2024 - 20 Oct 2024
We sought the community's views on a draft set of proposals for Lower Sunbury in Autumn 2024, including drop-in events at the Sunbury Adult Learning Centre on 24 September and 5 October 2024.

Design review and preliminary designs developed

The designs will be reviewed and developed further (to preliminary design stage) incorporating the feedback gathered at the second stage of engagement.

Engagement stage 3

2 June 2025 - 13 July 2025
A final round of engagement is being undertaken to present the updated design proposals and determine support for the proposed changes that have arisen from previous feedback. Drop in events are scheduled to be held at Sunbury Adult Learning Centre on Tues 17 June and Sat 5 July.

Preliminary designs completed

The designs will be developed in more detail and finalised, taking into account feedback from the third stage of engagement. The designs will be costed and different elements prioritised where appropriate.

Applying for construction funding

Funding is currently only in place for design. It is proposed that applications would be submitted for construction funding when suitable opportunities become available.
