Green Social Prescribing

Green Social Prescribing

Surrey Heartlands is one of seven national 'test and learn' sites for green social prescribing. We want the support of our local community to help us test what a successful green social prescribing programme could look like in Surrey.

About the project

E-bost

There has been an increased public awareness of the benefits of regular access to green spaces and studies have shown that this has the potential to improve mental health and wellbeing. In Surrey, we want to build on this potential to test how we can embed green social prescribing into communities to:

  • Improve mental health
  • Reduce health inequalities
  • Reduce demand on the health and social care system
  • Develop best practice in making green social activities more resilient and accessible

Find out more about Green Social Prescribing by watching this video.

Evidence tells us that mental health in some communities of Surrey was impacted more so than other communities as a result of the CoVid-19 pandemic. This project will first focus on these disproportionately impacted communities. We can then use our learning from this experience to scale up green social prescribing to a wider community audience in the future.

Please see below for ways you might be able to get involved to help test and design what green social prescribing looks like in Surrey.

Trusted Provider Status for nature-based health and wellbeing providers in Surrey

We would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this first draft of a 'Trusted Provider Status' for green health and wellbeing providers in Surrey.

As nature for health and Green Social Prescribing develops across Surrey, and more providers emerge, we are keen to support the quality of such provisions in our community, such that they are services that Health Care Professionals would be confident to make a referral, or signpost to.

One approach to this is developing a ‘trusted provider status’, where providers can self-assess their service against a set of criteria to demonstrate their quality and commitment to nature-based approaches to health and wellbeing. A first draft of this criteria has been developed and we would now like to share this for thoughts and feedback from health, social care, and green sector professionals in Surrey.
