Climate Change Delivery Plan

About the Climate Change Delivery Plan

Alongside healthcare and the NHS, restoring nature and tackling climate change are consistently in the top 5 priorities for Surrey residents*. In fact, 68% of Surrey residents rate action on the last two priorities as ‘extremely’ or ‘very’ important.**

Whether we address these issues is therefore not in doubt; but understanding how to successfully tackle them in the correct way - under SCC’s banner of ‘no one left behind’ - is crucial to ensure that this work is done in a fair, efficient and ambitious way that will benefit the lives of all of our residents and communities, not just those who could afford an electric vehicle or low carbon heating.

This five-year delivery plan will impact residents’ everyday lives in many ways, including how the council:

  • Supports improving the energy efficiency of homes to reduce costs and keep residents warm and healthy

  • Reverses Surrey’s above-average nature loss, and improve access to green space

  • Builds resilience for business and residents’ properties from flooding, extreme heat and infrastructure issues

  • Tackles pollution issues in our local rivers and waterways and in improving air quality for our communities

Surrey has many strong communities, and a wealth of rare and beautiful places. Enabling communities and organisations to collaborate with local authorities is a key factor in the success of employing joined-up solutions to the issues that our residents face.

Done correctly, these solutions can create heathier homes and places to live, in turn reducing pressure on healthcare, whilst creating jobs in growing markets, to ensure that local action not only improves the lives of Surrey residents, but plays a crucial role in the global-scale issues we face together.

We therefore invite residents to join us in the shaping the development of this strategy, and mapping out a path to successful delivery, in a way that makes Surrey a  leader in practical and impactful collaborative work to protect the people and places we love.
