Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the proposed 20mph scheme on the roads around Salfords Primary School, Redhill. We greatly appreciate your involvement and the feedback provided.
Following a detailed review of all comments received during the public engagement period, officers have carefully considered both the support expressed and the concerns raised.
What We Heard
The engagement generated a good level of response and reflected a broad range of views, with overall support for the proposed scheme.
Supportive comments highlighted the potential for improved safety for children and other vulnerable road users, lower vehicle speeds on residential roads, and a safer environment around Salfords Primary School. Respondents also highlighted the benefits of calmer traffic conditions and the potential to encourage more walking and cycling.
Concerns mainly centred on school-related parking and traffic, the perceived effectiveness of a sign-only scheme without enforcement, and the view that existing vehicle speeds are already low. Many respondents felt that parking and drop-off/pick-up activity associated with the school are the primary issues affecting the area.
Several respondents also suggested alternative or additional measures, including improved parking enforcement, revised traffic management arrangements and initiatives to encourage more sustainable school travel.
No new issues were identified that had not already been taken into account during the scheme's design. As a result, it is recommended that the scheme is progressed as proposed, with no amendments required.

Next Steps
A draft Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) will now be prepared and advertised for statutory consultation. This formal legal process provides a further opportunity for anyone to submit representations before a final decision is made on whether the 20mph scheme will be implemented.
We will share a further update here once the TRO has been formally advertised.
