Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the proposed 20mph scheme in Beacon Hill, Hindhead. We greatly appreciate your involvement and the feedback provided.
Following a detailed review of all comments received during the public engagement period, officers have carefully considered both the support expressed and the concerns raised.
What We Heard
The engagement generated a good level of response and reflected a broad range of views, with overall support for the proposed scheme.
- Comments highlighted the benefits of improving safety—particularly for children and around the school—as well as creating calmer traffic conditions and more consistent speeds across the village. Respondents also noted potential benefits for walking, cycling, and overall quality of life. There was also interest from some in extending the 20mph limit further, including roads such as Tilford Road.
- Concerns mainly centred on the perceived effectiveness of the lower speed limit, particularly where existing speeds are already considered low, and whether the scheme would work without enforcement. Wider issues such as parking pressures, road condition, and traffic speeds on Churt Road (A287) were also frequently raised. Some respondents felt that these issues should be prioritised or addressed alongside the scheme.
No new issues were identified that had not already been taken into account during the scheme’s design. While some requests were made for measures beyond the scope of this scheme—such as changes to Churt Road or additional crossing facilities—these would require further funding and separate consideration.
As a result, it is recommended that the scheme is progressed as proposed, with no amendments required.

Next Steps
A draft Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) will now be prepared and advertised for statutory consultation. This formal legal process provides a further opportunity for anyone to submit representations before a final decision is made on whether the 20mph scheme will be implemented.
