Thank you for your patience while a decision was made regarding the proposed School Street scheme at Ewell Castle School.
A report outlining the officers’ findings was prepared and presented to the County Councillor for consideration. Surrey County Council officers recommended that the scheme progress to a six-month experimental stage, and the County Councillor John Beckett agreed with this approach.

However, a key requirement for progressing the School Street was the implementation of the Ewell Village Improvements Project. As part of this project, the pavements on the junction of Church Street and The High Street are going to be widened. This is essential for the School Street scheme as the legally required signage for a School Street is too large to be accommodated on the existing pavements. The Ewell Village Improvements Project originally scheduled for delivery this summer, has now been deferred until Spring 2027. As a result, the School Street scheme cannot proceed at this time.

Once the pavement widening works on Church Street have been completed, the new East Surrey council will determine whether to proceed with the proposed School Street Scheme.
