Our Plans

Please take a look at our plans to make West street safer and easier for all road users

West St, Reigate, Road Safety Scheme

Overview of the works planned for A25 West Street, Reigate

Section 1, Buckland Road to property 75

We are proposing to:

  • Remove the existing pedestrian refuge near the Black Horse PH and replace it with a zebra crossing facility.
  • Improve the junction with Flanchford Road by bringing back the give way markings slightly to ensure cyclists can pass the junction in a safer manner. This will also increase the width of the existing right turn lane into Flanchford Road.
  • Install segregated cycle lanes in both directions of West Street.

These proposals will benefit:

  • Pedestrians, who will have a safer facility to cross the A25 West Street carriageway, with priority over vehicles.
  • Drivers, who will not have to pass/overtake cyclists on West Street and an increased right turn lane pocket when turning into Flanchford Road from the A25.
  • Cyclists, who will have a continuous cycle lane across the bellmouth of Flanchford Road, with increased separation from vehicles both exiting the junction and waiting within the right turn lane. The segregated cycle lanes along West Street will also lead to less conflict with passing/overtaking motor vehicles.

Section 2, property 73 to Norbury Road

We are proposing to:

  • Remove the existing pedestrian refuge to the west of Evesham Road and replace it with a zebra crossing facility.
  • Install two new bus cage (clearway) markings to ensure buses can align at the kerbs of the bus stops.
  • Install segregated cycle lanes in both directions of West Street.

These proposals will benefit:

  • Pedestrians, who will have a safer facility to cross the A25 West Street carriageway, with priority over vehicles.
  • Bus passengers, who will have safer accessibility when getting on and off buses.
  • Drivers, who will not have to pass/overtake cyclists on West Street, which will increase journey times and driver experience.
  • Cyclists, who will have segregated cycle lanes along West Street, leading to less conflict with passing/overtaking motor vehicles.

Section 3, property 43 to High Street / London Road (including a short section of Upper West Street)

We are proposing to:

  • Install segregated cycle lanes in both directions of West Street (note: the northern segregated cycle lane will cease at the junction with Upper West Street, whilst the southern segregated cycle lane will cease at the High Street).
  • Improve the cycle lane at the start of Upper West Street.

These proposals will benefit:

  • Drivers, who will not have to pass/overtake cyclists on West Street, which will increase journey times and driver experience.
  • Cyclists, who will have segregated cycle lanes along West Street (and a small section of Upper West Street), leading to less conflict with passing/overtaking motor vehicles.

Sections 1, 2 & 3, between Flanchford Road and the High Street

We are proposing to:

  • Resurface the entire road on West Street between Flanchford Road and the High Street.

These proposals will benefit:

  • All road users and particularly drivers, who will have a new road surface with no potholes, improving driver experience.
