Cranley Road and surrounding roads, Guildford
Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the proposed 20mph scheme on Cranley Road and surrounding residential roads, Guildford. We greatly appreciate your involvement and the feedback provided.
Following a detailed review of all comments received during the public engagement period, officers have carefully considered both the strong support expressed and the concerns raised.
What We Heard
The engagement generated a good level of response and reflected a broad range of views, with a clear majority of respondents supporting the proposed scheme.
- Most respondents supported the proposal, highlighting the potential benefits of improving safety for children travelling to and from the numerous schools within the area, reducing vehicle speeds, creating safer conditions for people walking and cycling, and establishing a more consistent speed environment across residential roads.
- Concerns focused primarily on school-related parking and congestion, with many respondents feeling these issues posed a greater safety concern than vehicle speeds. Respondents also questioned whether a permanent area-wide 20mph limit was necessary, noting that existing traffic speeds are often already low and that lower speed limits should be focused around schools.
- Some respondents suggested additional measures, including parking controls, School Streets, park-and-stride schemes and the inclusion of additional roads and school travel routes.
- Overall, no new issues were identified that had not already been taken into account during the development of the scheme, and the roads remain suitable for inclusion within the proposed sign-only 20mph scheme.
