Next Stage: Statutory Consultation (TRO) Now Open

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the proposed 20mph scheme on Bushy Hill Drive and surrounding residential roads, Guildford. We greatly appreciate your involvement and the feedback provided.
Following a detailed review of all comments received during the public engagement period, officers have carefully considered both the strong support expressed and the concerns raised.

What We Heard
The engagement generated a good level of response and reflected a broad range of views, with a clear majority of respondents supporting the proposed scheme.

• Most respondents supported the proposal, highlighting the potential benefits of improving safety for children travelling to and from the numerous schools within the area, reducing vehicle speeds, creating safer conditions for people walking and cycling, and establishing a more consistent speed environment across residential roads.
• Concerns focused primarily on whether the scheme was necessary, with many respondents feeling that existing traffic speeds are already relatively low. Respondents also questioned whether a sign-only 20mph limit would be effective without enforcement and whether lower speed limits should be focused around schools rather than applied across the wider area.
• Some respondents suggested additional measures, including traffic calming, School Streets, parking controls, pedestrian crossings and the inclusion of additional roads such as Epsom Road, Boxgrove Road and other nearby routes.
• Overall, no new issues were identified that had not already been taken into account during the development of the scheme, and the roads remain suitable for inclusion within the proposed sign-only 20mph scheme.

Next Steps: TRO Statutory Consultation
The proposal is now subject to a formal consultation as part of the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process. This is a legal requirement before any change to a speed limit can be introduced. During the consultation period, anyone may submit objections or statements of support. All comments received before the consultation closes will be considered before a final decision is made.
