Goodwyns, Dorking

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the proposed 20mph scheme for Goodwyns, Dorking. We greatly appreciate your involvement and the feedback provided.

Following a detailed review of all comments received during the public engagement period, officers have carefully considered both the support expressed and the concerns raised.

What We Heard

The engagement generated a good level of response and reflected a range of views.

  • Supportive comments highlighted potential safety benefits - particularly for children - and the value of calmer conditions on narrow, parked-up residential roads.
  • Concerns mainly centred on the perceived effectiveness of the lower speed limit, whether current speeds were already low, and that wider issues such as parking and school-run congestion are not addressed by this proposed scheme.
  • Overall, the scheme has clear support from local residents.

No new issues were identified that had not already been taken into account during the scheme’s design.   Officers therefore recommend progressing the scheme as proposed.

Next Steps

A draft Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) will now be prepared and advertised for statutory consultation. This formal legal process provides a further opportunity for anyone to submit representations before a final decision is made on whether the 20mph scheme will be implemented.

We will share a further update here once the TRO has been formally advertised.
