Next Stage: Statutory Consultation (TRO) Now Open

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the proposed 20mph scheme for Onslow Village, Guildford. We greatly appreciate your involvement and the feedback provided.

Following a detailed review of all comments received during the public engagement period, officers have carefully considered both the strong support expressed and the concerns raised.

What We Heard

The engagement generated a good level of response and reflected a broad range of views, with overall support for the proposed scheme.

• Most respondents supported the proposal, highlighting the potential benefits including improving safety for children, pedestrians and cyclists, and creating a more consistent speed environment on residential roads.        
• Concerns focussed primarily on the perceived value of the scheme, whether drivers would comply without enforcement, whether existing speeds are acceptable for the nature of the roads, and the extent of the proposed area.
• Overall, no new issues were identified that had not already been taken into account during the development of the scheme, and the roads remain suitable for inclusion within the proposed sign-only 20mph scheme.

Next Steps: TRO Statutory Consultation

A draft Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has now been formally advertised.  This is the start of the formal statutory consultation— the legal process required before any change to a speed limit can be introduced.

During this period, anyone may submit objections or statements of support. All representations received will be considered before a final decision is made.

The consultation is open until 25 September 2026.
