Draft Strategy - coming in Spring 2025
Surrey Local Nature Recovery Consultation
Welcome to the consultation page for the draft Surrey Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS).
The draft Surrey LNRS sets out the county’s priorities for nature recovery and the recommended actions to deliver these. The draft Local Habitat Map also aims to identify specific locations where some of these actions could be delivered to create 'areas that could become of particular importance to biodiversity' in the future.
The LNRS is the first of its kind for the county and has been prepared by Surrey County Council, appointed by Defra as Responsible Authority, with assistance from a broad range of partners including the 11 Districts and Boroughs of Surrey. It is one of 48 strategies being created across England, with the shared aim of halting and reversing the decline of nature.
The intention of the LNRS is to direct action and investment to areas where it is most needed, and will achieve the greatest benefits, and to steer losses and impacts away from the county’s most valuable natural assets.
View the LNRS map here and tell us your thoughts on where nature recovery action should happen.

Each tile below deals with a specific section of the LNRS, the core survey, the Local Habitat Map and six different priorities and measures.
You can choose to complete each one or just focus on those areas that are most interest to you.
The core survey is your opportunity to provide feedback on the content of Description of the Strategy Area and the Statement of Biodiversity Priorities and how its presented.
This section allows you to provide high level feedback on the overall ambition and priorities set out in the LNRS. To provide more specific comments on the priorities in each broad habitat and their associated potential measures please view the additional individual tiles.
Your input will be used to form the strategy.
