West Sunbury Local Street Improvements
Following the early engagement period in March and April 2024, the West Sunbury Local Street Improvements scheme development has been paused. This is until there are other schemes nearby, where the combined benefits are a lot higher than if this scheme was to be implemented independently. The engagement turnout was low, with only 12-15 people attending in person and 33 individuals responding online. Further evidence of strong community support is required before taking this scheme forward to feasibility design.
About the project
Local Street Improvements schemes can make streets in communities safer, healthier and more attractive, with appropriate vehicle speed limits and improved facilities for walking, wheeling and riding.
As part of the first tranche of Local Street Improvements schemes being taken forward in Surrey, a zone was identified in West Sunbury (Cedar Way, Mill Farm Avenue and Percy Bryant Road).

During the early engagement several issues related to drainage and flooding were mentioned, which fall outside the remit of the LSI project. These issues have been passed on to the relevant teams. Residents and businesses should be reminded of the Surrey County Council highway reporting tool which can be accessed here: Surrey County Council FixMyStreet
Several comments were made outside of the scheme’s boundary. These include comments made about Staines Road West and Windmill Road, including suggestions for implementing improved pedestrian crossing facilities across Windmill Road. Both Staines Road West and Windmill Road are considered to be major roads, outside of the scope of the Local Street Improvements work which focuses on smaller scale infrastructure solutions on local, residential streets. Pedestrian and cycling improvements are being considered on both Staines Road West and Windmill Road as part of the Spelthorne Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan.
