Little Green Lane, Chertsey
Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the proposed 20mph scheme on Little Green Lane and the residential roads around Meadowcroft Community Primary School, Chertsey. We greatly appreciate your involvement and the feedback provided.
Following a detailed review of all comments received during the public engagement period, officers have carefully considered both the support expressed and the concerns raised.
What We Heard
The engagement generated a good level of response and reflected a broad range of views, with overall support for the proposed scheme.
Supportive comments highlighted the potential for improved safety for children and other vulnerable road users, particularly around Meadowcroft School and along Little Green Lane. Respondents also highlighted concerns about speeding and rat-running traffic, and many viewed 20mph as a more appropriate speed limit for these residential roads.
Concerns mainly centred on the need for the scheme, its likely effectiveness without enforcement, and the view that parking, school-related traffic, safer crossings and additional traffic-calming measures should be prioritised instead. Some respondents also preferred a more targeted approach around Meadowcroft School or requested that the scheme be extended further, particularly along the full length of Bittams Lane.
No new issues were identified that had not already been taken into account during the scheme's design. As a result, it is recommended that the scheme is progressed as proposed, with no amendments required.

Next Steps
A draft Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) will now be prepared and advertised for statutory consultation. This formal legal process provides a further opportunity for anyone to submit representations before a final decision is made on whether the 20mph scheme will be implemented.
We will share a further update here once the TRO has been formally advertised.
