Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the proposed 20mph scheme on St Mary’s Road and surrounding residential roads, Weybridge. We greatly appreciate your involvement and the feedback provided.
Following a detailed review of all comments received during the public engagement period, officers have carefully considered both the strong support expressed and the concerns raised.
What We Heard
The engagement generated a good level of response and reflected a broad range of views, with a clear majority of respondents supporting the proposed scheme.
- Most respondents supported the proposal, highlighting the potential benefits of improved safety for children travelling to and from school, lower vehicle speeds, safer conditions for walking and cycling, and the creation of a more consistent speed environment on residential roads surrounding the school.
- Concerns focused primarily on school-related parking and congestion, with many respondents feeling these issues posed a greater safety concern than vehicle speeds. Respondents also questioned the effectiveness of a signed-only 20mph limit, while others felt that existing traffic conditions already keep speeds low.
- Overall, no new issues were identified that had not already been taken into account during the development of the scheme, and the roads remain suitable for inclusion within the proposed sign-only 20mph scheme.

Next Steps: TRO Statutory Consultation
The proposal is now subject to a formal consultation as part of the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process. This is a legal requirement before any change to a speed limit can be introduced. During the consultation period, anyone may submit objections or statements of support. All comments received before the consultation closes will be considered before a final decision is made.
The consultation is open until 13 November 2026.
