Next Stage: Statutory Consultation (TRO) Now Open

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views on the proposed 20mph scheme for Old Dean, Camberley. We greatly appreciate your involvement and the feedback provided.

Following a detailed review of all comments received during the public engagement period, officers have carefully considered both the strong support expressed and the concerns raised.

What We Heard

The engagement findings showed mixed views on the proposed scheme.  

• Many respondents supported the proposal, highlighting the potential benefits for children and other vulnerable road users, particularly given the four schools located within the Old Dean estate.  
• Supporters also felt that a consistent estate-wide 20mph limit would help reduce vehicle speeds, improve safety and create a more suitable environment for walking and cycling.
• Concerns mainly related to whether a 20mph limit is necessary given existing low vehicle speeds, the perceived effectiveness of a sign-only scheme, and whether issues such as parking, congestion and other local concerns should be prioritised instead.
• Overall, no new issues were identified that had not already been taken into account during the development of the scheme, and the roads remain suitable for inclusion within a sign-only 20mph limit.

Next Steps: TRO Statutory Consultation

A draft Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has now been formally advertised.  This is the start of the formal statutory consultation— the legal process required before any change to a speed limit can be introduced.

During this period, anyone may submit objections, or statements of support. All representations received will be considered before a final decision is made.

The consultation is open until 13 September 2026.
