St Paul's Road - Bowes Road Traffic Management proposals

St Paul’s Road, Wapshott Road, Bowes Road and Cornwall Way are local residential roads in Egham Hythe. Concerns have been raised by residents about vehicle speeds and road safety on these roads. Concerns have also be raised about drivers regularly using these roads as a ‘rat-run’ to avoid queues at the Thorpe Road railway level crossing and the Thorpe Road/Chertsey Lane/The Causeway/Staines Bridge roundabout. 

In response to the concerns raised Surrey County Council has recently consulted on three traffic management options:

Option 1: Point closures and reducing the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph.

Option 2: Traffic calming measures (speed cushions and road tables) and reducing the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph.

Option 3: 'Do nothing' - leave the roads unchanged.

The views of local stakeholders have been carefully considered in consultation with the local county councillor and the decision has been made to proceed with Option 2.

Relationship with the Egham Hythe Local Streets Improvements

The Traffic Management scheme, which covers a small part of the Egham Hythe Local Streets Improvements zone, is being taken forward separately, and subject to the outcome of the consultation, the preferred traffic management option would be delivered separately. However, this would be taken into account in the Local Streets Improvements proposals, with potential to add complimentary measures in this same area through delivery of the Local Streets Improvements.
