Cranleigh High Street

From Saturday 8 August, Bank Buildings Road will for pedestrians only at the weekends.

This is a trial, part-time pedestrianisation for the Fountain Square area aiming to provide more space for people to walk, meet and enjoy the area. It is intended to improve safety for pedestrians, support local businesses and enhance the overall visitor experience in Cranleigh village centre.

The restrictions will be in place between 9am and 4.30pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. During this time, all vehicles, including pedal cycles, will be prohibited from going along Bank Buildings Road (the section of road outside Yangaz and The Richard Onslow).

To allow access during the pedestrianised hours, Onslow Mews will become two-way instead of one-way. This means motorists will be able to access Onslow Mews directly from the High Street instead of through Bank Buildings Road.

The changes are being introduced by Surrey County Council using an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO). This allows the scheme to be trialled, monitored and reviewed while feedback is gathered before any decision is made on whether the arrangements should become permanent. Visit surreycc.gov.uk/cranleighhighstreet to read more about the scheme and access the survey to provide your feedback. Comments need to be submitted by 7 February 2027 to be taken into account.
