What are you doing at Fountain Square?
Following engagement events in Cranleigh in 2021, 2022 and 2023 there was a general agreement from residents that increasing the pedestrianised area of Fountain Square part-time would be welcomed. The plans include new planting and trees, additional spaces for seating and outside dining, more cycle parking and a new bus shelter which will include real-time information.
There were concerns raised about removing all the on-street parking along Fountain Square, so we have listened and kept some on-street parking when the road is open. We will also be installing a disabled parking bay which will be accessible from Rowland Road.
We will be improving Rowland Road at its junction with Bank Buildings Road, by adding raised pedestrian crossing points to make it easier for individuals with mobility issues and walking aids, and those with pushchairs, to cross the road without encountering slopes.
As part of the formal, statutory process for changes to parking and public spaces, there will be a separate consultation on:
The proposed changes to on-street parking
The part time pedestrianisation, which is suggested to be from 6am on Fridays to 11.59pm on Sundays only.
The creation of a raised pedestrian crossing point on Rowland Road
We expect the statutory consultation to start in approximately 6 weeks time.
