Join Surrey's flood-resilient community

In recent years, Surrey has experienced an increase in weather events. The impacts are being felt across our communities.

The effects of the events disrupt daily life, place pressure on local emergency services, and put vulnerable members of the community at risk.

But Surrey County Council is not standing still. We are taking decisive actions to protect our communities and build climate resilience.

Through a combination of physical intervention, ongoing maintenance and a forward-thinking climate adaptation and resilience strategy, called Surrey Adapt.

There are over 85,000 homes at risk of flooding from rivers, ground and surface water after heavy rainfall. This is likely to increase in the future due to more frequent extreme weather and increased rainfall brought about by climate change.

Surrey County Council and partners such as the Environment Agency are working hard to fulfil a flood risk strategy and better manage water. Thus helping communities understand the risk, reduce it and improve their resilience.
