A320 Chertsey Road and Guildford Road

Why are we proposing the speed limit reduction scheme?

 Reduction in people being injured:

The main reason for reducing the speed limits is to reduce the number of accidents/collisions and casualties.

Between January 2020 and December 2025, there have been 55 accidents/collisions, resulting in 72 people being injured, 16 seriously.

These figures include ten pedal cyclists (four serious), two pedestrians (one serious), 12 motor cyclists (three serious) and one child (under 16 casualty).

The figures include 22 accidents/collisions, resulting in 22 casualties (five serious) at the Six Crossroads roundabout.

What are the existing vehicle speeds?

As can be seen from the plan showing the speed survey locations, vehicle speeds along the various sections of the existing 50mph speed limits in A320 Chertsey Road, Woking, A320 Guildford Road, Chertsey and C144 Monument Road, Woking, mean (average) vehicle speeds range between 37.8mph to 41.5mph.  The aim is to reduce the higher speeders to this range.

The mean (average) vehicle speeds in the proposed 30mph speed limit range between 27mph and 33.9mph.  The aim is to reduce all vehicle speeds in this more urban section, as there are many pedestrians, houses, businesses, where a lower speed limit is more appropriate.

 The next stages?

The Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) / statutory consultation will be conducted later in the year.  This provides an additional opportunity to provide feedback.
