Project Description: The City of Tamarac has an extensive drainage system that is crucial for flood protection but relies on the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Canal System for operation and performance, which ultimately receives the area’s Stormwater discharge. On March 22, 2023, Tamarac's City Commission accepted a grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to develop a Comprehensive Stormwater Vulnerability Assessment aimed at identifying and mitigating flood threats to critical assets. The assessment involves collecting data on stormwater structures and will use historical data, advanced modeling, and regional coordination to enhance infrastructure resiliency. Following the assessment, the City plans to use the findings to implement adaptation strategies on its critical infrastructure.
Status: This project is ongoing and tentatively scheduled to be completed by Spring 2025. The consultant is currently working on the Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H) modeling needed to perform the Exposure Analysis as part of Task No. 4 process.
