Water Treatment Plant Greenleaf Filter Rehabilitation Emergency Repairs

Water Treatment Plant Greenleaf Filter Rehabilitation Emergency Repairs

Estimated Cost: $869,000.00

Estimated Start Date: July 2024

Estimated Completion Date: Spring 2025

Project Description: The City of Tamarac distributes drinking water from its Water Treatment Plant at 7803 NW 61st Street, where filtration with granular media removes impurities. The Greenleaf filter, along with six others, rotates for maintenance, including backwashing with pressurized reverse flow. Last rehabilitated in 2017, the Greenleaf filter was due for maintenance after installing a new 10 MGD Filter. However, high turbidity levels in the Clearwell effluent revealed two compromised cells in the Greenleaf filter, risking regulatory compliance and fines. Currently, the filter operates with only two poor-condition cells, necessitating immediate repairs and filter media replacement.

Status: This project is ongoing with completion scheduled for Spring 2025. Filter bays #1 and #3 have been completed with FDEP clearances and is currently back in service. The contractor is also progressing with the removal of the media within filter bay #4 and #2.
