Ybor City 7th Avenue

Historic 7th Avenue Bricking Project - Phase 2

Historic East 7th Avenue, named one of America's 10 Great Streets, is the main commercial thoroughfare of Ybor City. The Ybor City Community Advisory Committee recommended the bricking of this historic corridor from NIck Nuccio Parkway to 26th Street in accordance with both the Ybor City community redevelopment plans. In 2024. the Tampa CRA funded the first phase to brick two blocks of this historic corridor from North 15th and 17th Streets and the project was completed in August 2024. Now, Phase 2 kicks off which involves the next two blocks of 7th Avenue between 17th and 19th Streets. A community meeting was held on March 25, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Gaspar's Grotto, and the project construction began on Monday, April 13, 2026. The project is expected to be completed in 25 days.

The bricking of 7th Avenue in Ybor City helps to calm traffic on a road that experiences a significant amount of pedestrian traffic throughout the year. This project promotes alternative modes of transportation, and connectivity, boost local businesses, and contributes to the economic growth of Ybor City, creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs and job seekers. Using authentic historic bricks, this project enhances the authenticity of the National Historic Landmark District, allowing residents and visitors to better connect to the city's past.
