S. Armenia Avenue Improvements
There are some exciting new changes coming to South Armenia Avenue. The City of Tampa's Mobility Department will begin repaving and putting the finishing touches on South Armenia from Kennedy Boulevard to Swann Avenue. This work will be done in two phases - Phase 1: S. Armenia from Kennedy to Platt St, Phase 2: S. Armenia from Platt to Swann Ave. The first phase will begin on December 10th, the second is planned for December 14th.
Once the roadway is repaved, our team will use the opportunity to begin installing a buffered southbound bicycle lane on South Armenia Avenue that will transition to a buffered two-way cycle track at the intersection of West Platt Street and will connect to West Swann Avenue. This will be a continuation of the bicycle lane that is being installed by Hillsborough County on North Armenia Avenue.
In addition to the bike lane, the City will be implementing marked bus bays and approximately 38 marked, on-street parking spaces along South Armenia Avenue. There will be seven marked spaces on Armenia between Kennedy and Cleveland, a net loss of only three spaces to accommodate the new bike lane. To achieve this, we will narrow the current travel lanes, leading to slower speeds and a safer roadway for all users. Additional safety improvements include new crosswalks along the corridor and enhanced pavement markings.
