Swann Park Enhancement Project

The Swann Park Improvements Project is a community-led initiative focused on creating a welcoming park environment that reflects the needs and priorities of park patrons of all ages. Swann Park, officially named Hyde Park, is located at 702 South Albany Avenue.

The vision for an improved Swann Park dates back to 2021, when longtime community advocate Harold Walker and philanthropist Brian Funk began exploring opportunities to reimagine the neighborhood park. Their efforts helped build community support for the project and ultimately led to the establishment of Friends of Hyde Park, a nonprofit organization created to help advance the vision in partnership with the City of Tampa.

Following Harold Walker’s passing in 2025, the effort to bring that vision to life has continued. Today, the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, Friends of Hyde Park, neighborhood associations and the community are working together to advance plans for the park through a public-private partnership and ongoing community engagement.
