Palma Ceia Water Main Improvements Phase III
The City of Tampa is working hard to build, maintain, and deliver high quality, reliable water service to its customers for drinking, cooking, cleaning, sanitation, irrigation, recreation, business, and fire protection. The City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) identifies and delivers projects throughout Tampa where water infrastructure, treatment, and distribution system improvements are needed. This project is one of many City projects funded by the PIPES initiative.
As part of the City's CIP, the Palma Ceia Water Main Improvements Project will improve water service reliability by replacing aging water mains and reducing service interruptions due to breaks and leakage. The new water mains will also add capacity needed for growth and increase water pressure for homes, businesses and fire suppression throughout the Palma Ceia area. The project will replace approximately 31,700 linear feet of existing water main pipes with new and larger diameter pipes ranging from two (2) to twelve (12) inches and includes the transfer of existing services, temporary water service, roadway resurfacing and restoration, sidewalk and driveway restoration, maintenance of traffic, and sodding.
Project Location
The Palma Ceia Water Main Improvements Project Phase III will replace water main pipes in the city's right-of-way located on streets throughout neighborhoods in Palma Ceia, including the Palma Ceia Neighborhood Association, New Suburb Beautiful, and Golfview. The project area also includes a portion of the Palma Ceia commercial district, which connects local businesses to adjacent and nearby neighborhoods.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the project include?
The project includes the replacement of aged and/or undersized pipes with new water main to meet current demands in your area. This project will include transferring customers’ existing meters to the new water main and installing new and/or additional fire hydrants to increase local fire protection capability.
Will my water service be interrupted?
Interruption of water service may occur but is expected to be minimal and of short duration as services are transferred to the newly installed pipes. Property owners will be notified in advance of all scheduled interruptions of service through door-hanger notifications or other means of communication.
Will I experience an interruption in mail delivery or garbage/recycling collection?
To avoid/minimize impacts to mail delivery and garbage/recycling pick-up, the contractor will work to coordinate with service providers concerning construction activities. If all stays on schedule, all crew members and construction equipment associated with this project will be out of the neighborhood by the first week of October. The finish line is in sight!
Brickwork Restoration Update
Contractor crews are hard at work this morning, restoring the majority of the remaining brickwork — including all brickwork along West San Carlos Street — with completion expected by Friday. 👷♀️🧱
Next up: crews will complete the final brickwork along South Exmoor Street & West San Miguel Street as well as South Esperanza Ave & West Palmira Ave next week.
We’re happy to report that the Palma Ceia Water Mains Improvement Project remains on schedule, with all work expected to wrap up by the first full week of October. ✅
Thank you to our Palma Ceia neighbors as we wrap up this important work!
Final Checks
Both City and Kiewit teams are completing final quality checks in the neighborhood ✅
Despite the original contractor defaulting, Kiewit stepped in and wrapped up the final phase in just 4 months — helping improve water service, update old pipes, and reduce future water main breaks 💧
