Garden Communities Hub
Welcome to the Garden Communities information hub
We know how important it is for residents to have access to clear, accurate, and up-to-date information. This hub is designed to provide transparency on the Garden Communities project and its benefits for Tewkesbury and the wider area.
What the Garden Communities Team at Tewkesbury Borough Council do
The Garden Communities team are tasked with making plans for and facilitating the Garden Communities. It’s our job to put things in place which provide guidance to developers and landowners about how we want to see this area be developed in the future. Ensuring that the principles we have set out in the charter are realised.
Benefits of a Garden Community
✅ Holistically planned – A garden community is a holistically planned new settlement, providing not only new housing, but employment opportunities, local facilities such as healthcare, education, shops and green spaces.
✅ Infrastructure - Planning for growth on the large scale, enables a more comprehensive approach to strategic infrastructure, such as roads, to be taken. This enables the government to plan more effectively.
✅ A long-term, vision – planning for growth in this way, enables us to meet our long term future needs for housing and employment in a well thought out and sustainable way.
Addressing misconceptions
We understand that changes can lead to uncertainty, and misconceptions can spread quickly. Here are some common concerns and the facts:
❌ "The homes are being built on a floodplain."
✅ Fact: The current masterplan being brough forward by developers does not propose development within the floodplain. Existing planning policy does not support new development within a floodplain.
❌ "All 10,000 homes are being built at once."
✅ Fact: The Garden Community will deliver housing, alongside facilities, infrastructure and employment in a phased approach over at least the next 30 years.
This hub is here to provide factual, up-to-date details so residents can make informed decisions based on facts, not rumors. We encourage you to explore the information, ask questions, and stay engaged. Together, we can shape the future of Tewkesbury with a well-planned and thriving community!
