Kolbe Road Sidewalks Project: Improving Pedestrian Safety and Community Access in Lorain
The City of Lorain has officially secured $575,751 in funding for the Kolbe Road Sidewalks Project, a major step forward in improving pedestrian infrastructure in West Lorain. This project will create safe, ADA-compliant sidewalks along Kolbe Road from Jaeger Road to Clovelly Drive, with enhanced pedestrian crossings at Rossi Way and Clovelly Drive using Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons (RRFBs). Sidewalk extensions will also be added along Clovelly Drive and Beavercrest Drive to connect key residential areas and facilities.
This area is home to neighborhoods like Martin’s Run, Cornerstone, and The Villages at Lighthouse Point, as well as vital destinations including Mercy Health Hospital, Lighthouse Commons shopping center, and local schools. Currently, many residents—especially students and those without access to a vehicle—face challenges traveling safely on foot. From 2017 to 2021, 8.9% of households in this area did not own a car.
The Kolbe Road Sidewalks Project will address these issues by improving walkability, safety, and connectivity, especially for vulnerable populations. Once complete, the project will link homes to hospitals, shopping, transit, and schools—making everyday travel safer and more accessible for all Lorain residents.
