Tower and Leavitt (SR 58) Signal Improvements - PID 120792

The City of Lorain, in coordination with ODOT District 3, is moving forward with a proposed safety improvement project at the intersection of Tower Boulevard and Leavitt Road (SR-58). This location was identified as a priority through the Tower Blvd.–Leavitt Rd. Safety Study conducted by Woolpert. The goal of this project is to improve intersection safety, enhance pedestrian accessibility, and modernize traffic signal operations.

This project proposes the installation of a new traffic signal system with advanced radar detection to better monitor vehicle flow and reduce delays. Pedestrian safety will be improved through the addition of new signage, pedestrian signal heads, push-button controls, and ADA-compliant crossings.

The intent of this project is to support safer multimodal transportation, minimize crash potential, and improve overall traffic operations at a key arterial intersection in the City of Lorain. Utility coordination, environmental clearances, and right-of-way investigations have been completed prior to the start of construction activities.

Key components of the project include:

New traffic signal system with radar vehicle detection
Supplemental signal heads and backplates
Pedestrian push-buttons and signals
Replacement of overhead lane use signs on southbound approach
Incidental pavement markings
Coordination with utilities: Brightspeed, Charter Communications, Ohio Edison, Columbia Gas
