North Riverwalk Trail Extension Project

The City of West Sacramento has long recognized the immense potential of the Sacramento River as both a natural asset and a community connector. The Washington District, located along the riverfront and within close proximity to downtown Sacramento, is a key area where focused investments in infrastructure, planning, and redevelopment are shaping a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood. As part of this transformation, the vision prioritizes recreational access, enhanced mobility for pedestrians and cyclists, and creating meaningful opportunities for community interaction along the waterfront.

Guided by the Washington Realized strategy adopted in 2015, the City is aligning revitalization efforts with long-term goals for sustainability, connectivity, and active public spaces. Investments in the District’s northern waterfront aim to strengthen access and security for paved pathways, promote circulation connections that emphasize public access, and catalyze mixed-use private development. The initiative reflects the City’s commitment to equitable and thoughtful urban planning, and we invite stakeholders to play an active role in shaping the future of this vital public treasure.
