Barge Canal Trail Phase I Improvement Project

West Sacramento is committed to creating vibrant public spaces that enhance quality of life, promote environmental sustainability, and support community well-being. This transformative effort within the Pioneer Bluff and Stone Lock Master Plan area includes a 12-foot-wide multi-use path flanked by landscaped shoulders, thoughtfully designed seating areas with street furnishings, and lighting to improve security for trail users. Key design elements will incorporate historical artifacts from the Stone Locks Facility, creating a unique aesthetic experience that celebrates our community's heritage. These features are supported by critical infrastructure enhancements, including sidewalk upgrades and pavement striping, ensuring safe and enjoyable access for all.

This initiative demonstrates the City’s dedication to fulfilling the 2018 Strategic Plan Policy Agenda’s priorities, including flood protection, trail connectivity, and the adaptive reuse of underutilized areas. Beyond its functional benefits, the project aims to make the Barge Canal area a more inviting destination for residents and businesses alike, enhancing the livability and economic potential of West Sacramento. As always, we value resident input throughout this process to ensure the project aligns with community needs and aspirations. Your voice matters, and your feedback is an essential part of creating a public space that everyone can enjoy!
