South Molton Public Realm

Westminster City Council in partnership with Grosvenor and Mitsui Fudosan UK are proposing exciting improvements to the public realm on Brook Street, Davies Street, Davies Mews and South Molton Lane in Mayfair. By investing in the public realm, the proposals aim to create a lively new place to shop, work, eat, live and stay. Previous consultation by Grosvenor took place on the South Molton development, included proposed changes to the public realm. This feedback has been taken into consideration and incorporated into the current design.

We are sharing with you the updated proposals which will support safer and easier movement through the area, and create more welcoming spaces for everyone.

The proposals include:

• Pedestrianisation of Davies Mews with access for loading only between 7am and midday.
• Partial pedestrianisation of South Molton Lane and Davies Street between St Anselm’s Place and its junction with Weighhouse Street and South Molton Lane. Vehicular access in these areas would be limited to residents and necessary servicing/loading. Cycle access would be maintained.
• Reversing existing one-way traffic flow to north-south on South Molton Lane.
• Repaving of streets and footways to create a more pedestrian-friendly and accessible environment.
• New raised table crossing at the junction of Davies Street and Brook Street to make crossing safer and easier.
• Planting of new trees to create a more attractive streetscape.
• Incorporating Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
• Installing new street furniture, including upgraded lighting and new cycle stands.
• Changes will be made to the parking and loading restrictions, subject to another Traffic Management Order consultation, to reflect the significant transformation of the area

The proposals aim to make South Molton greener, easier to navigate and better connected for residents and visitors, whilst respecting the area’s character and heritage.
