These proposals build on successful elements of the outdoor dining and increased greening that were introduced to North Audley Street in 2021 on a temporary basis.

In August 2021, Westminster City Council carried out a public consultation on the temporary scheme to understand if people agreed that:

• A permanent outdoor dining scheme should be developed
• The temporary scheme should remain on North Audley Street until the permanent scheme is implemented subject to approval

Both elements were supported by the majority of people.

Proposals Overview

• Outdoor dining retained to support retail tenants, operated via pavement licence, and located on the footway next to premises’ forecourts. 
• Minor on-street parking amendments to reinstate the pay-by-phone parking bay on Providence Court. 
• High-quality natural stone would replace the temporary surfaces on the widened footways, ensuring adequate space for pedestrians, wheelchair users, and those with visual impairments.
• Improved planting and trees introduced to enhance biodiversity.
• Planting and tree species that are tolerant to drought, selected to minimise water usage. Species that support pollinators (such as butterflies, moths and bees) would be prioritised. 
• Below-ground sustainable drainage system installed to help reduce surface water flooding.
• Additional cycle stands introduced to promote active travel.
