The Alfred Road Inclusive Playground Consultation
This project aims to improve the current playground, making it a more inclusive and accessible space which encourages an active lifestyle in all children.
An inclusive playground is a recreational space designed to accommodate children of all abilities, ensuring that play structures and activities are accessible to everyone, including those with physical, sensory, or cognitive challenges. We want to foster social inclusion, allowing children from diverse backgrounds and abilities to play together, promoting a sense of community and understanding.
We are inviting parents, carers and local residents to learn more about the project and share their views.
About the project
Renovation of the Alfred Road playground will bring it back into use for the community, promote wellbeing and encourage an active lifestyle.
The playgroun is located in Alfred Road, W2 5HF.
Consultation and Engagement Aims
- Understand why the Alfred Road playground is underutilised and ideas around how usage can be maximised.
- Raise awareness of the redevelopment of the playground and garner buy-in to the project.
We really want to encourage the local community to share their views and ideas and support the project.
A proposed design is being presented to the local community showing the reasons behind the selection of features that aim to improve inclusive play. Proposals include recommendations on equipment that allows children of different abilities to play alongside each other, promotes belonging and community cohesion.
We will visit schools near the playground to discuss with parents, and hear from children, especially those who will be utilising the playground to get their input and feedback on what playground equipment they would like to have included.
