History of Scheme
The hangar on St John's Wood Terrace is Westminster's first adapted and cargo cycle hangar, and the first in the country to offer fully accessible, step-free access from the carriageway.
This aligns with the administration’s commitment to expand secure cycle parking for residents. By making cycling accessible to more people, this type of hangar provides a safe storage solution for handcycles, tricycles, and cargo bikes that do not fit in standard-sized hangars.
To better understand future demand for similar installations, we have also updated the "Register an Interest" form to include options for both standard and non-standard bikes. This modification has provided us with valuable data on the types of bikes in use, informing our future planning efforts.
Following the borough-wide consultation and the conclusion of the trial phase, we will plan to roll out additional similar units.
Previous Consultation Information
In February 2024, we conducted a standard format hangar consultation on the location of the trial cargo hangar, St. John’s Wood Terrace. The aim was to gather local feedback on its location, appearance, and impact on highway operations.
We received four comments from residents during the consultation. Some of these were irrelevant to the project, but there was a concern about the loss of parking space.
