Westminster City Council is seeking your input on its proposal to re-adopt the existing Statement of Principles for Gambling in accordance with the Gambling Act 2005 (the Act). This policy, which was initially adopted in December 2022, outlines the council’s approach to regulating gambling activities under the Act. It aims to protect vulnerable groups and prevent gambling-related harm.
The decision to re-adopt the current policy follows the review of its use and interpretation, whether the evidence base for the council’s Local Area Profile for Gambling has changed or whether there have been any amendments or additions to national guidance or legislation.
The review determined that there haven’t been any concerns raised about the policy’s content or interpretation over the past two year, and there have been no significant changes in guidance or legislation, that would require revisions. As a result, the council believes the existing policy continues to meet the requirements of the Act, serve the community effectively and can be maintained without changes.
As the current policy period comes to an end in January 2025, the council is proposing to re-adopt the existing policy for the next three years, while remaining open to reviews if needed during this period.
We encourage you to share your thoughts and feedback on this proposal. The consultation is open until midnight on Wednesday, 16th October 2024, and comments can be submitted via our website at www.westminster.gov.uk/gambling-policy.
**We have extended the consultation by from the 14th to the 16th October to enable further responses to be received**.
Have your say and help us ensure that Gambling in Westminster remains fair, safe and well-regulated!
