Moxon Street Public Realm Improvement Proposals

Westminster City Council is proposing to improve the Moxon Street public realm, with the Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL) contributing some funding via Section 278 Agreements. This involves changing the direction of vehicular traffic, enhancing pedestrian pathways and introducing sustainable green features such as new planting and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). The proposed changes aim to reduce vehicular traffic, creating a safer and more attractive environment around Marylebone with more space for pedestrians to move in the area.

The proposals for the Moxon Street Public Realm Improvement project include:

• Changing the direction of traffic flow from eastbound to westbound to reduce congestion and improve safety
• Introducing a new loading bay
• Widening footways to support retail activity, and improve pedestrian comfort
• Creating a shared-use surface to balance pedestrian and vehicle movement while prioritising pedestrian safety
• Installing a new pedestrian zone at the western gateway, between Aybrook Street and Ashland Place, creating an inviting public space
• Planting new trees and rain gardens
• Installing premium paving for a high-quality, connected streetscape.
• Changing the direction of traffic flow from northbound to southbound on Aybrook Street.

These enhancements will create a more enjoyable, vibrant and accessible space for all pedestrians, road users, residents, businesses and visitors alike
