Traffic Management Order Proposals - February 2026

Westminster City Council and the London Borough of Brent are proposing highway changes on Kilburn Lane between the junctions of Banister Road and Chamberlayne Road/Ilbert Street to introduce one-way traffic flow northbound (with two-way cycling retained). This scheme is in response to requests by residents for intervention on traffic issues and a subsequent traffic study in 2023-4 which led to the one-way traffic flow option being taken forward.

The following improvements are proposed to enhance accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists, reduce congestion, and improve the public realm:

  • Kilburn Lane to be one-way only northbound for general traffic between Chamberlayne Road/Ilbert Street junction towards Banister Road junction. Kilburn Lane will be No Entry (except cycles) at the junction with Banister Road.
  • Two-way cycling retained along Kilburn Lane between Banister and Chamberlayne Road.
  • A new cycle lane providing a cycle connection between Ilbert Street and Kilburn Lane.
  • New raised table providing traffic calming and a pedestrian crossing point outside numbers 58 to 60.
  • Greening (in-ground planting) and a bench at the western end of Ilbert Street and 5 new cycle stands.

Traffic Order consultation on the proposals took place between Wednesday 25th February and Wednesday 18th March 2026.

The results of the consultation will be reviewed in March-April and next steps for the project published in due course.
