Background
Westminster City Council, in partnership with Transport for London (TfL), is proposing to deliver a new cycle route, Cycleway 51, connecting Kilburn with Marylebone.
The scheme aims to enhance cycle safety, accessibility, and connectivity between Kilburn and Marylebone and will benefit all people who want to walk, wheel and cycle in the area.
Between Marylebone Road and Melcombe Place, Harewood Avenue will become a one-way street southbound for motorised road traffic, with a dedicated northbound contraflow cycleway in place.
North of Melcombe Place, Harewood Avenue will remain a two-way street for motorised vehicle traffic.
To enable the introduction of this new road layout, the direction of traffic flow on Harewood Row and Hayes Place must switch to allow buses to continue to serve Marylebone Station.
More information on these enabling works and the overall scheme is available here.

New Road Layout
On Harewood Row and Hayes Place, we removed redundant traffic signage, changed road markings, and installed new signage, which was uncovered on Saturday 28 March when the change to the direction of traffic flow was implemented.
FMC marshals have been on site to guide road users through the new road layout. They remain at key locations from 7am – 7pm until Tuesday 7th April.
Next Steps
With these enabling works complete, they have created the necessary arrangements for the main works to take place by ensuring that traffic can continue to flow seamlessly, including new bus standing arrangements, when the new contraflow cycleway is installed on Harewood Avenue as part of the overall Cycleway 51 scheme.
Further information on the commencement of the main works for the overall Cycleway 51 scheme will be posted on the Commonplace news feed in due course.
